Message ...this is why you MUST do the maint to it first.

Local guy, his Z stopped running. It turned over but would never start. He took it to a shop and they couldnt figure it out so I had him bring it over to me. He told me on the phone he got new spark plugs at Checker so I knew he had the wrong ones already since they dont sell the oem and anything they do sell are NA sized. So that was the first thing I confirmed and had him order new plugs. The plugs he bought were already so fouled they woulded spark anyway so I changed those out first.

Car now had fuel and spark. Compression test was good....too good. Average here in colorado at our altitude for a TT is 120-130ish. I was getting 150ish all around. Tried a different cas, ptu and ecu for the heck of it, no change. I could hear the fuel pump. So pretty much left the timing belt. Was trying as much as I could before I tore it apart.

I think I found the main issue :). Lower TB pulley came apart. Appears its been this way for awhile as it wore the groves into the timing belt and the bearing are no where to be found.

Previous owner of the car threw in a jspec engine (new owner didnt know this but the Tiger sticker on the front told me pretty clearly) and its pretty obvious they didn't touch it to do any maint on it first.

I'm all for using jspec engines but you must tear it down and go over it first. You have to do the 120k kit, reseal it, etc. I've had great luck with jspecs so far, but I always tear them down to a bare long block and rebuild/reseal it from there. Also a good idea to flush it out or you'll end up with rusty slop instead of a good flowing coolant system. His coolant pipes a nice mud like substance in them.

Still have to do some more tests. TB jumped 4-5 teeth in many places. Compression test was "good" but need to do a leak down just to make sure. Engine still turned over but made some sounds that I didnt like. It could have just been the pulleys outer shell spinning on the stud. He may have just got lucky this time.
